Lucky Pot of Gold

St Patrick's Day is tomorrow, and my lucky little Irish leprechauns are enjoying a good strong downpour of rain today by snipping out a few paper shamrock decorations, and crafting a project that guarantees there will be a full pot of gold at the end of the rainbow waiting just for them.

Lucky Pot of Gold - St Patrick's Day Craft Project

Supplies:
* Mini clay pot
* Black paint
* Paintbrush
* Green paper
* Yellow paper
* Scissors
* Tape
* Glue

Lay down some newspaper as protection for your table, and paint the clay pot completely black with your paint brush. Let it dry, and apply a second coat. Cut out a rectangular shape from your yellow paper, then fold in half and trim out another rectangle from the center to create a belt buckle. Cut a green strip of paper about 3/4" to 1" thick and wrap around the belly or rim of your pot. Tape the belt secure and trim off any excess length. Fasten the belt buckle to the belt with glue. You can add extra embellishments you have lying around that are fitting for the St. Patrick's Day theme - including green and gold glitter glue, foam shapes, stickers, and mini pom poms.

We taped green apple and watermelon lollipops to green construction paper, and traced out a shamrock design around them to cut out and place in our pot of gold, along with some gold chocolate coins, of course. :-)

St Patrick's Day is the perfect opportunity to learn about lucky symbols, all things green, and everything Irish from the Emerald Isle.

The "St Patrick's Day Alphabet" book was fun for the whole family to read because it has everything from A to Z answered about legends and objects surrounding our favorite green holiday.
